'Desert at Last Light' is one of 26 landscapes from Sydney-based photographer Richard Green's first solo exhibition in Sydney.
'Wild Places' exhibition is at the Byron McMahon Gallery, Redfern and runs from the 27 August - 27 September. It is a provocative and intensely lyrical collection of landscape images showing the unique beauty of Australia’s most remote areas.
Richard accesses these out of the way parts of Australia to capture their majestic, untouched beauty, unlike any other photographer. He flies from Sydney in his own twin turbine helicopter, then uses state of the art digital photographic equipment to produce large format images - some over 4 metres long. The results speak for themselves with his images capturing the essence and stark splendour of these isolated wilderness areas.
Richard’s primary motivation in staging this show is to increase public awareness. His photos highlight the inherent beauty of places, many of which have never been photographed before and most of us will never have the opportunity to see. He hopes that the exhibition will engender a greater respect for our natural environment and an appreciation for the importance of protecting it.
Richard Green has been a regular supporter of Bush Heritage Australia since its inception. In keeping with this, he has pledged to donate 50% of the net revenue from this show to relevant environmental charities including Bush Heritage.
The 'Wild Places' exhibition is running concurrently at the National Library of Australia in Canberra until 16 November 2008.
Details of the shows and Richard Green can be obtained from the Byron McMahon Gallery and the National Library Canberra website.
