Answers to frequently asked questions about donating to Bush Heritage Australia

I have a question about donations. Who do I contact?

Please call the Bush Heritage Supporter Services team on 1300 NATURE (1300 628 873) or send us a message with your question. We'll endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes, donations over $2 are tax deductible.

Bush Heritage is a Deductible Gift Recipient (ABN 78 053 639 115), a prescribed organisation on the Australian Government Register of Environmental Organisations, a Charitable Institution and an Income Tax Exempt Charity with taxation exemption benefits.

What will you use my donation for?

Donations from people like you are the reason Bush Heritage has been so successful in protecting important pieces of Australia's natural heritage. And your support will mean we can do even more in future.

The conservation work your donations will go towards includes:

  • buying land of outstanding conservation value
  • legally protecting the land, so it's safe forever
  • keeping Bush Heritage's reserves in good shape, for example by rehabilitating degraded land, controlling weeds and feral animals, and fire management work
  • scientific research to monitor the plants and animals you're protecting
  • partnering with other landowners to help them manage their land for conservation.

How is Bush Heritage funded?

Most of Bush Heritage's operating funds are provided by generous donations from the community. That's why your donation is so important.

Although we've received government assistance for some land purchases and management work, we don't receive any ongoing government funding.

Companies and philanthropic trusts and foundations also provide important funding.

In what ways can I support Bush Heritage?

However you'd like to donate, you'll be changing Australia for the better.

Some of the ways you can support Bush Heritage are by:

You can make a donation in the way that suits you:

What is a Friend of the Bush?

Our Friends of the Bush are special members of the Bush Heritage team. Every month, they donate an amount of their choice to support our conservation work.

Being a Friend of the Bush is one of the most effective ways of supporting our work, allowing us to plan for long-term conservation outcomes.

When are my regular monthly donations processed?

We can't thank you enough for becoming a Friend of the Bush and pledging your regular support.

If you made your first donation between the 1st and the 15th of the month, your card will be debited for the first time on or shortly after the 15th of the month. If you made your first donation between the 16th and the end of the month, your card will be debited for the first time a few days after your first donation.

After the first donation, your card will be debited on or shortly after the 15th of each month. Unfortunately, we're not currently able to change the date the payments are processed.

When will you send me a receipt?

Thanks for your generous donation. Without you, we couldn't do what we do.

If you've made a one-off donation, you'll receive a receipt in the mail as soon as possible. If you're a Friend of the Bush, making regular monthly donations, you'll receive a consolidated tax receipt in July, at the end of the financial year.

How do I change my address or donation details?

Please call us on 1300 NATURE (1300 628 873) or send us a message to update any of your details.

How do you protect my privacy?

We take your privacy seriously. Use of your details is governed by our privacy policy. If, at any time, you would like to change the way Bush Heritage communicates with you, please call us on 1300 NATURE (1300 628 873) or send us a message.

Is my online donation secure?

We use a secure online payment system, which means that your donation transaction is safe. When on the donation page, your web browser will show a padlock, which indicates that the page is secure.

Can I fundraise for Bush Heritage?

We would be honoured to have you fundraise on our behalf, for example at a sporting event, in memory of someone, or to celebrate a special occasion.

The easiest way to arrange this is to set up an online fundraising page for Bush Heritage at GoFundraise. Then your contacts can use this fundraising page to donate online.

Can I donate as a gift?

Yes! If you just wish to make a one-off personal donation as a gift, please visit our WILDgifts site.

You'll be able to choose from a range of virtual gifts for the conservationist or wildlife lover in your life, and your recipient will get a personalised card, telling them all about how their gift will protect Australia's natural heritage.

Can I donate in memory of someone?

We're honoured that you're thinking about remembering your friend or loved one by a donation to Bush Heritage.

If you wish to make a single, personal donation, please visit our WILDgifts site, where you can choose from a range of virtual gifts that will help protect Australia's wildlife and landscapes.

If you'd like to ask a group of people to donate online in memory of someone - perhaps in lieu of flowers at the funeral - we suggest that you set up an online fundraising page for Bush Heritage at GoFundraise. Alternatively, call us to request paper donation forms.

Thank you for considering us as a recipient of these special gifts.

I donated this financial year. Can I claim the tax benefit from my donation in the next financial year?

For donations of money or property valued at over $5000, you may be able to spread the tax benefit over a 5-year period. Check the Australian Taxation Office website for more information.

Can I specify where I want my donation to go?

It's terrific that you have an interest in a particular area of conservation. Due to the administrative work involved in tracking gift expenditure, we can only direct your gift to a specific project if the gift is more than $10 000.

Otherwise, we use your donation where it's most needed. That means that the highest priority projects will get the money they need to run.
