Competition winner donates $5000 prize to Bush Heritage Australia
| A North Melbourne competition winner has donated her $5000 prize money to conservation group Bush Heritage Australia.
Sarah-Jane Cranna, 25, was the winner in fashion brand Element Eden’s competition for customers to make a difference to an important wildlife or conservation issue. As the winner of the competition, which required entrants to write a 50 word essay, Ms Cranna won $5000 to donate to the wildlife or conservation organisation of her choice. Ms Cranna chose Bush Heritage Australia, whose vision is to protect one per cent of Australia’s most important conservation land by 2025. Her $5000 prize money will help Bush Heritage Australia complete fire management work at a conservation reserve in Central Queensland “Animal protection through land preservation is important to me,” Ms Cranna said. “I chose Bush Heritage Australia as it preserves all elements of the environment, including the land, the animals and the relationships between them.” Ms Cranna said she’d always been interested in animals and their ethical treatment and she was happy to play a part in Bush Heritage’s conservation efforts. She said she would love to volunteer for Bush Heritage Australia. Bush Heritage Australia CEO Doug Humann said Bush Heritage Australia was honoured and thrilled to be the recipient of such a wonderful gift. “We are extremely grateful to contest winner Sarah-Jane for selecting Bush Heritage as her preferred not-for-profit organisation,” he said. Certainly Sarah-Jane has made a difference. Thanks to her initiative, we will be able complete essential fire management work on our Goonderoo Reserve in central Queensland. Situated in an area that has seen heavy land clearing, the reserve protects important stands of endangered brigalow woodlands and native grasslands, and this project will protect these valuable habitats from wildfires.” Ms Cranna’s prize also included a $1000 clothing package from Element Eden. Entrants in the Element Eden competition were eligible to enter if they purchased a Save Us tee, hoodie or bag between 1 Jan 2008 and 30 June 2008.
