Benefits of being a Friend of the Bush regular donor and giving monthly through automatic deduction:
- giving by a regular gift is easier because you don’t have to worry about stamps, mailing the letters and phone calls
- your regular gifts help with getting things done. We can start planned projects earlier because we know the money will come in for their on-going funding
- regular giving helps with long term planning because we can rely on the income in the future
- more can get done with your gift because regular gifts keep our administration and fundraising costs to a minimum
Why save our bush?
- Australia is home to nearly 700,000 species, many of which are found nowhere else in the world.
- About 84 per cent of plants, 83 per cent of mammals, and 45 per cent of birds are endemic – that is, they are only found in Australia.
- Human activities have changed the landscape and natural habitats. This has put hundreds of our unique species at risk, such as the swift parrot.
- Since European settlement over 41 species of Australian animals and over 100 species of Australian plants have become extinct. It is likely that other species have also disappeared without our knowledge.
Why Bush Heritage?
Bush Heritage Australia is a non-profit organisation that protects Australian animals and plants, and their habitats.
- Over the past 100 years much of the bush has been broken up into separate landholdings and cleared and now Bush Heritage is helping to put the missing pieces back. It is like putting together a giant jigsaw puzzle.
- Bush Heritage acquires and manages land of outstanding conservation value where natural populations of rare species are still living or where threatened ecosystems survive.
- Once the land is acquired, we actively manage our reserves and work in partnership with the owners of neighbouring properties, individual and corporate pastoralists. These include Indigenous groups, governments and other conservation organisations and together we achieve good environmental outcomes beyond our reserve boundaries.
Bush Heritage currently owns 31 conservation reserves totaling over 946,276 hectares. Tax-deductible donations from the community are a vital part of this conservation effort. They enable the purchase and ongoing management of reserves and help support our partnerships.
- Bush Heritage purchases properties in all Australian states, but focuses on five key regions.
- The plan is to buy critical properties that can be linked together to reconnect fragmented habitats. This will help to restore our landscapes to health.
- With your donation we can continue to buy these properties and, as far as possible, restore them to health.
- Our reserve managers protect the land and encourage the native species to prosper again.
- Bush Heritage also works outside these five key regions when properties of high conservation value are identified.
Bush Heritage reserves are located in all states in Australia.
