Visiting the Reserves

Overview

While Bush Heritage manages its properties first and foremost for nature conservation it provides a range of opportunities for people to visit.  Please refer to the descriptions and the chart below for details.   As you will see not all types of activities are available at each reserve and access may be restricted from year to year and to different times depending on the conditions and management requirements.  We hope you are able to participate on any number of these activities and see the wonderful places you have helped to protect.

It is important that all visits are registered and booked through the Visitation Coordinator.

Types of Visit

Self-guided Day Trip

Self guided day visits provide an opportunity for people to visit some of our reserves at their own leisure.  In most cases access onto the property is by foot only and there may be limited or no facilities other than management tracks or nature trails.  Camping is not permitted on these reserves and visitors are required to be responsible for their own safety.   If you are interested in this option please contact us on 1300 NATURE (1300 628 873) or email info@bushheritage.org.au

Self-guided Camping

Self guided camping provides an opportunity to visit reserves in a fully self sufficient capacity.  This option has been made available to enable people to visit some of our more remote properties, and so requires guests to be well equipped and prepared.  Maps and specific reserve information are provided upon registration.

Where camping is allowed (other than Eurardy Reserve - see below) the following applies:

  • Available from April to October.
  • A maximum of one week stay only.
  • Maximum 8 people in no more than 4 x 4WD vehicles.
  • Visitors must carry a UHF radio or satellite phone in the group (please check requirement for each reserve).
  • You must be totally self-sufficient for the duration of your stay, including food, fuel, water, vehicle maintenance & recovery equipment and camping equipment
  • Bookings  please call us on 1300 NATURE (1300 628 873) or email info@bushheritage.org.au for details.

Eurardy Reserve, Western Australia - Homestead-style accommodation, caravan and camping sites are available at this reserve.  Access by 2WD is possible.  Bookings and enquiries can be made directly with Reserve Managers (08) 9936 1038.   Wild flower tours operate in Spring.

Field Trips and Open Days

Field Trips and Open Days are accompanied day and overnight visits.  These trips are guided by Bush Heritage staff and are a great way to experience reserves in a supported capacity.  Field trips can range from 7 days long to a morning walk depending on the reserve.  Some Field Trips and Open Days require guests to be self sufficient with 4WD and bush camping equipment while others are accommodated and catered for.  Please see each reserve for further information where field trips are available.  Bookings are essential.

Working Bees

Together with a group of around 10 other like-minded individuals you can experience a reserve first-hand while also contributing to the management of the reserve. Working bees range from a weekend to 3 weeks in length.  In most cases accommodation is provided at or near the reserve.  Participants are either asked to self-cater or contribute to a food kitty if food is provided. Bookings are essential, please contact us on 1300 NATURE (1300 628 873) or email info@bushheritage.org.au

Volunteer Ranger

Live and work on one of nine possible reserves around the country. Help to restore and maintain these beautiful and unique reserves.
The Volunteer Ranger Program is a way for our valuable supporters to get their hands dirty at the very core of Bush Heritage’s work. Volunteer rangers are essential. They allow us to successfully manage and conserve our increasing number of large reserves across Australia.

There are different Volunteer Ranger categories depending on your skills and commitment to the program, which results in different amounts of support from Bush Heritage.  For further information on this program please contact us on 1300 NATURE (1300 628 873) or email info@bushheritage.org.au
