Volunteer Rangers
Bush Heritage runs a Volunteer Ranger program at nine reserves. The program is for people with time, energy and skills to contribute.
Volunteer Rangers are involved in various aspects of reserve management including weed and feral animal control, infrastructure construction and maintenance, surveying and monitoring. We support Volunteer Rangers with the use of a vehicle (except at Mareeba Wetlands), accommodation and training if necessary. Volunteer Ranging is suited to people who are very self-reliant.
Being a Volunteer Ranger is a wonderful way to spend an extended period of time at a reserve and to get to know its outstanding landscape and abundant wildlife.

JULY
Charles Darwin, WA - closed
Volunteer Rangers to assist with Malleefowl monitoring (involves walking through thick scrub).
Who: 4 persons.
When: July 15 — 17.
Skills required: Must be fit and willing to crawl through dense scrub, have outdoor/previous fieldwork experience, botanical interests and a sense of enthusiasm!

AUGUST
Charles Darwin, WA - closed
Weeding, weed mapping and some opportunity to join in the Ecological Outcome Monitoring surveys.
Who: 1 to 2 couples.
When: August 4 — 15.
Skills required: 4WD experience, previous experience with fieldwork and the outdoors, good level of fitness, botanical interests preferred.

Volunteer Ranger/Researcher to help conduct a Native Rare Orchid Survey.
Who: Maximum 4 persons.
When: August 13 — 18.
Skills required: 4WD experience, botanical knowledge, experience working in remote areas, particular interest in native orchids preferred.

Skills required: 4WD experience, botanical knowledge especially regarding native orchids, experience operating in remote areas.
