After two years of discussions and meticulous planning, John
Colahan's family and friends found have found the perfect way to honour
his memory and last wishes – 96 hectares of precious habitat in central
Victoria for Australian wildlife, now protected forever in his memory.

Bobbin' robins
He may turn his back on you if you're trying to watch him, but as
Lucy Ashley discovered, the red-capped robin has plenty to tell about
how well you're looking after his home. |

New hope for Edgbaston
The path to conservation success can be long, winding - and sometimes
a little muddy. But ecologist Dr Adam Kerezsy has good news from
Edgbaston Reserve, where he continues his mission to save the red-finned
blue-eye. |

Fire at Ethabuka Reserve
In late September, Steve Heggie clicked on satellite images
of the Simpson Desert for what seemed like the hundredth time. The
images told him what he'd been hoping to avoid - fire was on its way to
Ethabuka Reserve. |

We invite you to celebrate the contribution you’ve made to 20 years of conservation with Bush Heritage Australia.
Read about Bush Heritage supporters and staff, who share their own
personal stories of the Australian bush and Bush Heritage, in
celebration of our 20 years. Just like you, they've helped to make a
real difference to our bush, the heart and soul of Australia.
|
Bob Brown - Founder of Bush Heritage
"Thanks to you, Bush Heritage has weathered the seasons along the road to today, our 20th anniversary.
I'd like to invite you to celebrate your part in those 20 years. Here
you will see stories of others who love our bush just like you do.
These are your stories - the stories of our bush, our creatures and our people, from 20 years of conservation"
Happy 20th anniversary

Alistair Dermer - Reserve Manager
"I’ve always had a connection with the land, but at Ethabuka, the land
became our life. Our first daughter, Asha, spent the first year of her life absorbing the spirit of Ethabuka." |

The first 20 years
A timeline of some of the significant events during Bush Heritage's history
Doug Humann - CEO of Bush Heritage
"There I was, standing on the street with the cheque in my hand, unable to comprehend what had just happened."
Anna Howard - Friend of the Bush
"I don't believe we own the land - I believe that we are its guardians, for the next generation."
Simon McKeon - Australian of the Year
"I've seen that everyone involved in the organisation is striving
toward one big goal, but their decisions are not made hastily."
Joan Anderson - Friend of the Bush
"I visited South Esk Pine Reserve in 2004. I remember those lovely,
South Esk pine trees hanging over the river. It's such a lovely little
place."
Your stories
Thanks to all our wonderful supporters who filled out our survey in
July and shared their stories of the Australian Bush. Over the course of
this month we will be posting them here.

|
Ellie Sobey - Volunteer at Scotsdale
"The conservation ethos was threaded through my family, so when I was
looking for a practical way to put my environmental science studies to
use, Bush Heritage was a natural fit."
|
| |
|
Sylvester Mangolomara - Partner
"I learned about my country from my grandfather, my father and my auntie. We wanted someone to
listen to what we wanted, and to make people realise how much this
country means to us."
|
| |
|
Elizabeth George - Supporter
"I
am so pleased Eurardy has been saved. I’ve been very privileged to see
the bushland in good times and bad. It has been a wonderful adventure.”
|
| |
 |
Matt Appleby - Ecologist
"The bird life has increased dramatically, which is a great indicator of how the reserve is improving."

Extinct no more
It's not every day that land managers get to pluck a species from the extinction list, but with your help, Field Officer Jeroen van Veen played a role in rewriting the history books at Nardoo Hills reserves. |

Desert wanderings
Ecologist Max Tischler has been to the Simpson Desert many times. But this time, he experienced the desert in a completely new way.

Stranded Drenching rains on Ethabuka and Cravens Peak reserves provided a unique experience (and some challenges) for two Bush Heritage volunteers.
