Our Reserves
Bush Heritage Australia owns and manages 30 reserves throughout Australia covering over 938,076 hectares in six states.
Bush Heritage reserves are now protecting:
- We currently own and manage 30 reserves throughout Australia covering over 938,076 hectares. These reserves are safeguarding over 242 vegetation communities, of which at least 83 are threatened. More than 3,200 plant and animal species have been recorded so far, including at least 250 plant and 195 animal species that are listed as threatened.
- examples of at least 83 vegetation communities listed in state and/or federal acts, agreements or publications as critically endangered, endangered, vulnerable, of concern, poorly reserved or unreserved
- over 2700 plant species. (This information has been compiled from flora surveys, with new information added in August 2007. Many additional plant species will occur on the reserves but have yet to be formally identified)
- at least 250 plant species that are listed in state and federal acts, agreements or publications as critically endangered, endangered, vulnerable or of concern
- at least 532 species of birds or other vertebrate animals. (This information has been compiled from fauna surveys, and updated in August 2007)
- at least 195 species of birds or other vertebrate animals that are listed in state and/or federal acts, agreements or publications as critically endangered, endangered, vulnerable or near threatened.
