Vegetation
Goonderoo is located in the heart of central Queensland's brigalow belt biogeographic region.
It contains nine distinct vegetation associations, listed below, including brigalow woodlands and native grasslands, classified as endangered.
Brigalow (Acacia harpophylla) and yellow-wood (Terminalia oblongata) shrubby low open forest or woodland (40 ha). Eremophila mitchellii in understorey. This is a lowland association, which occurs on deformed and metamorphosed sediments and interbedded volcanics. Conservation Status: "endangered".
Brigalow shrubby open forest (120 ha) on deformed and metamorphosed sediments and interbedded volcanics. Wilga (Geijera parviflora), Eremophila mitchellii and Belah (Casuarina cristata) in understorey. This association also occurs on the lowlands. Conservation Status: "endangered".
Blackbutt (Eucalyptus cambegeana) woodland with an understorey of brigalow (80 ha) occurs on old sedimentary rocks with varying degrees of metamorphism and folding. Conservation Status: "endangered".
Blue grass (Dichanthium sericeum) grassland (40 ha) with some emergent trees including mountain coolibah (Eucalyptus orgadophila), silver-leafed ironbark (E. melanophloia) and pink bloodwood (Coryumbia erythrophloia). This lowland association occurs on Cainozoic igneous rocks and less than 30% of its original extent remains intact and in good condition. Conservation Status: "of concern".
Blue grass grassland (40 ha) occurs on lowlands on old sedimentary rocks with varying degrees of metamorphism and folding. Open woodland of Eucalyptus melanophloia and E. orgadophila occurs on rises. Less than 10% of the original extent remains intact. Conservation Status: "endangered".
River red gum fringing woodland (40 ha) primarily occurs upon alluvial plains. Dominant species are river red gum (Eucalyptus tereticornis or E. camaldulensis) generally with bottlebrush (Callistemon viminalis) and Angophora floribunda. Conservation Status: "of concern".
Lancewood (Acacia shirleyi) low open forest (30 ha), primarily on hills and ranges of old sedimentary rock with varying degrees of metamorphism and folding. Conservation Status: "not of concern".
Poplar box (Eucalyptus populnea) with false sandalwood (Eremophila mitchelli) understorey open woodland (160 ha) occurs on deformed and metamorphosed sediments and interbedded volcanics. Conservation Status: "not of concern".
Silver-leafed ironbark (Eucalyptus melanophloia), E. crebra, E. papuana, E. erythriophloia grassy woodland or low woodland (40 ha) on deformed and metamorphosed sediments and interbedded volcanics. Conservation Status: "not of concern".
