Animals
Fauna surveys are yet to be conducted but the likely list of threatened species includes four bird and eight mammal species, and four frog species. This list includes the endangered northern quoll, spotted-tailed quoll, sermon’s leaf nosed bat, greater large-eared horseshoe bat and fluffy glider, and the vulnerable masked owl, Australian painted snipe and olive buttonquail.
Nests of the nationally vulnerable red goshawk have been identified on the property. This is very exciting as there are estimated to be only 700 pairs of this spectacular bird of prey remaining in Australia.
The nationally endangered northern bettong is probably responsible for the characteristic scratchings photographed by our assessment team in May 2007. If the presence of this desperately rare little marsupial is confirmed it will be a really exciting discovery. This delightful but enigmatic animal is known from only four isolated populations. Yourka would become the fifth.
