Plants of Eurardy

Vegetation

eurardy_wildflowers_landscapeEurardy supports a number of  vegetation associations of particularly high regional conservation value. One of the most significant being the Bowgada and Jam scrub with scattered York Gum and Red Mallee woodlands. With the purchase of Eurardy by Bush Heritage, the reservation status of this association increased from less than one per cent to nearly 22 per cent.

Yellow sandplain heath and shrublands, melaleuca thickets, samphire flats, dune vegetation, mallee, grasslands and swamps provide the diversity of habitats to support an impressive list of plant and animal species.

The property is also renowned for its wildflowers, and has a reputation as one of the top wildflower destinations along Western Australia’s Batavia coast with carpets of daisies, orchids and a breathtaking array of shrubs bursting into bloom in spring.

Recent plant surveys conducted by the Western Australia Wildflower Society have recorded over 600 species of plants including five species which are nationally endangered or vulnerable and another 30 that are a priority for conservation in Western Australia.
