Landscape
The climate at Charles Darwin Reserve is a semi-desert Mediterranean climate with most rain falling in winter. The region can receive heavy summer rainfall as a consequence of tropical cyclones and associated rain bearing depressions. These events are generally infrequent and account for the highly variable annual rainfall. Over 40 years, the average range is 99 to 539 mm a year!
When visiting the reserve, please remember that summer months get very hot and you must always carry plenty of drinking water with you. Winter nights can get very cold, be prepared.
