$10 Million Hand Raises the Green Stakes
29 November 2006
Australian conservation efforts were boosted yesterday with the announcement of the $10 million Thomas Challenge. Philanthropist David Thomas has pledged the money over five years, on the condition that other philanthropists match his offer dollar-for-dollar.
The money will be distributed by US-based The Nature Conservancy among their four conservation partners in Australia - Bush Heritage Australia, Australian Wildlife Conservancy, Greening Australia and Trust for Nature. Gondwana Link is one project that has been earmarked to benefit from the grant.
The Herald Sun, The Age, and ABC Radio's Bush Telegraph reported on The Nature Conservancy's biggest ever donation outside the US.
