Working at Charles Darwin Reserve - ABC Radio National, Country Breakfast

13 October 2007

Amidst the wildflowers and remnant woodlands of Charles Darwin Reserve, rural reporter Mary Goode interviews reserve managers and volunteers about their conservation work and what motivates them.   In this ABC Rural Report on working on Charles Darwin Reserve (5:00 minute video), reserve managers Andrea and Kurt Tschirner talk about the conservation significance of the property - the remnant woodlands, mallee fowl and dunnarts - and what needs to be done to protect them.

Volunteers are a crucial resource in the restoration and management of this property.  From Australian retirees who love being out in the bush, to a German student wanting experience of scientific work and nature conservation in Australia, these volunteers roll up their sleeves and get down to work: monitoring soil types, studying woodland vegetation, and installing rainwater tanks.
