2013 was one of the driest years on record for Naree with only 140mm rain. We have already exceeded this total this year and the country is responding at breakneck speed.
The weather events that brought the rain were spectacular. Raging dust storms and temperatures on the high side of 45 for weeks on end, with storm clouds building but passing us by.
Finally, after much anticipation the rain came. Not drought breaking rain, but enough to trigger a burst of new life here at Naree. And not only in the wetlands – the whole patchwork of woodlands and grasslands is greening up before our eyes.
There’s a long way to go yet to see all Naree’s wetlands full of water – but recent days have sent our spirits soaring as you can imagine.
And to cap it all – today marks our first year at Naree, not to mention our wedding anniversary!
