Last Saturday a small group of Bush Heritage volunteers and supporters headed to the Southern Highlands of NSW to volunteer at the 39th Annual Bundanoon Highland Gathering.

Each year the event organisers invite a not-for-profit organisation and their volunteers along to contribute their time and share in the profit made from the gathering as a way of financially supporting the work of the organisation.

On Saturday the normally quiet little town of Bundanoon (population 2,500) swelled with 15,000 visitors from the local region, interstate and overseas who had travelled to attend this one-day event.

The gathering was filled from beginning to end with traditional sports and demonstrations including the Highland Games, Stones of Manhood, Farmers Walk and 600 pipers and drummers who provided the musical backdrop throughout the day.

The official welcome party talked of the importance of country and clan for the Scottish people and the role we must all play in preserving both. The welcome speeches highlighted the work and contribution of volunteers in our communities and encouraged us all to 'Be the change we want to see'.

Bush Heritage would like to thank Breda’s Delightful Baskets for the Australian-made goodies used to raise valuable funds and the event organisers for their generosity and support of Bush Heritage and the work that we do.

I'm looking forward to the mammoth event that will be the 2017 40th Annual Bundanoon Gathering and encourage you to attend this event.
