Have a cuppa for the bush

Bush Heritage launches Giving Day to raise funds for conservation
Published 04 Mar 2024

National not-for-profit Bush Heritage Australia has launched a campaign asking Australians to donate the cost of their daily cuppa to help protect our environment for future generations.

The ‘Cuppa for the Bush’ Giving Day was first launched in 2021 to celebrate 30 years since Bob Brown first founded the organisation. The relaunched campaign aims to raise $120,000 in funds to support projects across the organisation.

“One in four people say they can’t survive the day without coffee, but the reality is that no one can survive without a healthy planet and biodiversity,” said Bush Heritage Australia CEO Rachel Lowry. “With the Cuppa for the Bush campaign we hope to show our community that even the smallest donations can make a huge difference.”

Donations start at $5 – the average cost of a coffee – and will go towards the purchase of vital conservation materials such as seedlings for tree-planting projects, nestboxes for habitat restoration, and sound recorders to measure populations of critically endangered birds.

A group of major donors have already pledged to match each donation on the day up to the total value of $70K, which will help each small donation go further.

‘Cuppa for the Bush’ launches on Wednesday 6 March and runs from 7am to 7pm. Bush Heritage will ask supporters to share a photo of their favourite place in nature to have a cuppa. Participants will go into the draw to win a Bush Heritage Cuppa Kit (T-shirt, camping mug and badge).
