I had the great privilege to be invited to present at the annual FIA conference in Sydney recently, and have come back energised and recharged from spending time with some of Australia’s best and brightest in the fundraising sector.

As the Major Gifts and Bequests Manager for Bush Heritage Australia, I have the great pleasure of talking to donors and supporters on a daily basis. It’s an inspiring part of the job, gaining insights into why people choose to support our cause. I was able to take some of those insights and share them in my presentation Strengthening the commitment of your gifts in Wills supporters, which highlighted our award-winning Bush Legacy Circle recognition program.  What I find so refreshing about our sector is the collegiate, collaborative approach – we are all keen to share strategies for how to achieve success and overcome challenges that face the fundraising community.

One of the highlights of the conference was the Gala awards dinner; there was lots of positivity around the room and just a great atmosphere. I was very proud to collect the Donor Renewal Award for our 2017 Winter Tax Appeal – Standing in the Way of Extinction. This was a campaign to protect the exquisite Tasmanian Midlands landscape, partnering with the Tasmanian Land Conservancy and Midlands landholders. It was an ambitious campaign that was rewarded in donors’ enthusiasm, and our Marketing and Fundraising Team did an incredible job in creating a multi-tiered fundraising appeal.

Thank you to our partners Tasmanian Land Conservancy and all of the landholders who so generously assisted this campaign and its success, and of course, our wonderful supporters.

We also were presented a highly commended award in the Major Gifts award category our work to highlight our collaborative Aboriginal partnerships and resulting achievements across the country to our donors; and I stood proudly with former staff member Stacy Irving as she was awarded Young Fundraiser of the Year.

It was a memorable night for Bush Heritage that again highlights the strong commitment that the organisation has placed on engaging and inspiring our supporters to be part of the Bush Heritage family sharing in our successes and progress toward our vision of healthy country, protected forever.
