Our bird list at Boolcoomatta Station Reserve is now up to 126 species. Many of these are unique to these parts including the Inland Dotterel.

The Inland dotterel, Peltohyas australis, is an endemic shorebird of the arid Australian interior. We have this one as gate keeper to the entrance to the reserve.

They're experts at camouflage in this landscape.

Dotterals are closely related to plovers. There are 66 plover and dotteral species around the World. The Inland Dotteral however is found only in arid regions of Australia.
