Steve has been a Bush Heritage Ambassador now for nearly a decade and this relationship developed after he experienced a life-changing period post the 2011 Brisbane floods.

Steve has told many of us his story of being a multi-millionaire one week and then seeing his life's work, literally washed away in the next.

This was due to his business premises, stock and home all being impacted by the floods and the insurance companies declaring it an 'inundation' rather than a flood and therefore his insurance was void.

This period coincided with the closure of some of Australia’s largest suppliers of Steve Parish publications, due to the changing nature of bookstores and publishing houses throughout the world, which left Steve in a major depression. He found himself without much at all in the material realm and living on the Sunshine Coast hinterland in a shed.

He reports that this life changing event led him to be more present and happier than he had been at any other point in his life and started him on his crusade to promote the connection with nature as a primary driver to good mental health and inspiring a creative life purpose in all those he was lucky enough to meet.

Over the last few years Steve has given all his time to helping others find their purpose and enhancing their life through photographic activities in nature and offers his knowledge through his masterclasses, talks and online courses.

Steve has been an unyielding support to the Bush Heritage Photographic Competition over the past four years and has provided our competition winners with free access to his programs.

Last year's winner Tara Harrold told me that she'd undertaken one of Steve's masterclasses several years ago and at the time Steve had said 'you always need to have a goal in your life'. Tara declared she could not believe her win as 'this was the goal I'd set for myself and it came to fruition'.

For anyone wanting to experience Steve's exuberance for nature photography, the following information will provide you with pathways and information on what he has on offer.

Thank you, Steve, for all your support and we look forward to next year's competition.
