Red Moort Reserve really has been the dream project since we purchased it as an abandoned farm in 2014.
Just over 1,000 hectares of stunning country, it came up trumps as the best property of the eight we own or partner with for location of our Field Station.
We found a gorgeous site for it about 800 metres in off Monjebup Road, and the build that started only in April is ahead of schedule and on budget.
No Grand Designs project this one! I spent a lot of time working out an access alignment for the drive-in that makes for a memorable arrival experience. Our grader driver formed that up only yesterday, so it's very raw, but will anchor nicely into the landscape.
It starts through a bit of the mallee heath restoration we did back in 2014, already pretty as a picture. Firewood lot of the Eucalyptus flocktoniae that's natural to the site and loves the red clay soils was planted two years ago and is well away. So we're set to start planning for a grand opening that positions us for the next 15 years in the Fitz-Stirling landscape – building on our successes over the last 15 to take it to the next level.
