Tax benefits

Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.

Bush Heritage is a Deductible Gift Recipient (ABN 78 053 639 115), a prescribed organisation on the Australian Government Register of Environmental Organisations, a Charitable Institution and an Income Tax Exempt Charity with taxation exemption benefits.

For donations of money or property valued over $5,000, you may be able to spread the tax benefit over 5 years.

Check the Australian Tax Office website.

Where do the dollars go?

Donations go towards work such as:

  1. buying land of outstanding conservation value and working with our partners on the land they own.
  2. legally protecting our reserves so they're safe forever
  3. managing the land to protect our most unique and threatened plants and animals
  4. scientific research to monitor the plants and animals you're protecting.

Can I support a specific project?

It's terrific if you have a specific interest but to manage our administration we only accept gifts on a project basis if the amount is more than $10,000. Contact us to discuss.

Most donations are used, where they’re most needed, on our highest priority projects.

What is regular giving?

Regular giving is when you choose to give to Bush Heritage on an automatic, regular basis, by donating a nominated amount from your bank account or credit card each month. You can stop or change the amount you contribute each month whenever you choose.

Our regular donors help protect Australia’s natural heritage every day of the month, enabling us to buy and manage a growing network of our reserves around the country; secure the habitats of thousands of animal, bird and plant species; fund vital ongoing practical solutions to protect threatened native wildlife; and create and maintain vital partnerships with landowners - all to protect Australia’s natural wonders.

It’s one of the most effective ways to support us, as administrative costs are low and knowing we have a monthly source of income allows us to plan more effectively for the future. To thank our regular donors, we provide updates about our work and what they are helping to achieve throughout the year.

Please consider joining the Natural Wonders regular giving program today.

When are regular donations processed?

Once your initial donation has been processed, your ongoing donation will be debited monthly, on either the 1st or 15th of the month (or nearest business day), depending on when you joined. If you’d like to change the date of your donation from the 1st to the 15th, or vice versa, please let us know.

Occasionally, if a monthly payment is not successful on the first attempt, we will try to resubmit your credit card details on subsequent days in order to successfully honour your pledge. In the meantime, we will try and contact you to make sure we have your up-to-date details on file.

Receipts

If you've made a one-off donation to an appeal of project, you'll be sent a receipt shortly thereafter. If you're a regular donor (making automatic monthly donations from your bank account or credit card) you'll get a consolidated tax receipt in July, at the end of the financial year.

Personal contact details

Bush Heritage takes the protection of your personal and financial information seriously. More information, including how we collect, use and secure personal information, is available in our full privacy policy.

Significant donations

We'll gratefully accept gifts of money or other financial assets – you might choose to use an unexpected legacy or financial windfall to support us. You can give land, whether or not it has conservation value.

You may wish to establish a permanent foundation or trust, with the income and/or some of the capital gifted to us. This can happen automatically, or annually for projects of your choice.

In most cases these gifts will be tax deductible and for significant gifts we'll be pleased to discuss recognition.

We can suggest a range of independent financial advisors. For a confidential discussion, please contact +61 (0) 3 8610 9150 or majorgifts@bushheritage.org.au

Donating shares

We can accept shares directly instead of cash without any brokerage fees. For a confidential discussion, contact +61 (0) 3 8610 9150 or majorgifts@bushheritage.org.au.

Alternatively, ShareGift Australia is a not-for-profit organisation that enables you to sell shares and donate the proceeds to charity. There are no brokerage fees. If your donation exceeds $50, you can nominate Bush Heritage Australia as your recommended charity to benefit from ShareGift Australia’s donations. Donations as gifts

Can I donate for a loved one's birthday, wedding or other celebration?

Yes! If you would like to make a gift to a loved one in lieu of a birthday or wedding present, for example, you can do so over the phone by calling 1300 628 873 (1300 NATURE), or through our website.  If you are making your donation online, please include within the comment box the name of the person for whom the gift is for.

If you are organising a celebration yourself, and are asking friends and family to donate to Bush Heritage in lieu of gifts, then firstly, thank you! We are so grateful for your support. The easiest way to do this is to set up a free, personalised fundraising page at GoFundraise . This allows you to customise your page with an image and message, and choose an appropriate occasion, such as ‘birthday’ or ‘wedding’. Simply remember to select Bush Heritage as your nominated charity! Once you have created your page, you can share it with family and friends.

If you would prefer not to use an online fundraising platform, or if you are simply looking for an alternative birthday or Christmas gift for a friend or family member who cares about conservation, then please consider purchasing a Bush Heritage WILDgift.  Here you can choose from a range of gift cards that represent areas of Bush Heritage’s work, and which can be sent as e-cards or printed cards.

All gifts to Bush Heritage are helping to protect Australia’s unique birds, animals and landscapes. Thank you again for your support.

Can I donate in memory?

We are honoured that you are considering making a donation to Bush Heritage in memory of a friend or loved one. Gifts in Memory are a lasting way to pay tribute to a person’s life, interests and values, and a gift of this nature to Bush Heritage will help further conservation in Australia towards our shared vision of a healthy country, protected forever.

If you choose to make an individual Gift in Memory, you can do so over the phone by calling 1300 628 873 (1300 NATURE), by post to Level 1, 395 Collins St Melbourne, VIC 3000 or through our website.  If you do make your donation online, please include within the comment box the name of the person for whom the Gift in Memory is for.

If you are arranging for a group of people to make Gifts in Memory – perhaps in lieu of funeral flowers – please get in touch with us so that we can talk to you about your specific requirements. We can organise donation envelopes to be provided for the funeral service, send an acknowledgement letter of all gifts received to the next of kin, and on request we can also publish the details of these special gifts in our quarterly newsletter, Bush Tracks.

Please contact our Supporter Relations team by calling 1300 628 873 (1300 NATURE) emailing info@bushheritage.org.au or sending us a message via our Contact Us page  if you have any questions or would like to discuss any of these options further.
