Tax benefits

Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.

Bush Heritage is a Deductible Gift Recipient (ABN 78 053 639 115), a prescribed organisation on the Australian Government Register of Environmental Organisations, a Charitable Institution and an Income Tax Exempt Charity with taxation exemption benefits.

For donations of money or property valued over $5,000, you may be able to spread the tax benefit over 5 years.

Check the Australian Tax Office website.

Where do the dollars go?

Donations go towards work such as:

  1. buying land of outstanding conservation value and working with our partners on the land they own.
  2. legally protecting our reserves so they're safe forever
  3. managing the land to protect our most unique and threatened plants and animals
  4. scientific research to monitor the plants and animals you're protecting.

Can I support a specific project?

It's terrific if you have a specific interest but to manage our administration we only accept gifts on a project basis if the amount is more than $10,000. Contact us to discuss.
Most donations are used, where they’re most needed, on our highest priority projects.

What’s Friends of the Bush?

It’s a regular giving program. Every month members donate a nominated amount from their bank account or credit card. It’s one of the most effective ways to support us, as administration costs are low and we are able to plan more effectively.

When are regular donations processed?

If you joined between the 1st and 15th of the month, the first amount will be debited on, or shortly after, the 15th.

If you join between the 16th and the end of the month, the first amount will be debited within a few days and subsequently on, or shortly after, the 15th of each month.

We're not currently able to alter processing dates.

If you've made a one-off donation, you'll be emailed a receipt. If you're a Friend of the Bush (making monthly donations) you'll get a consolidated tax receipt in July, at the end of the financial year.

Significant donations

We'll gratefully accept gifts of money or other financial assets – you might choose to use an unexpected legacy or financial windfall to support us. You can give land, whether or not it has conservation value.

You may wish to establish a permanent foundation or trust, with the income and/or some of the capital gifted to us. This can happen automatically, or annually for projects of your choice.

In most cases these gifts will be tax deductible and for significant gifts we'll be pleased to discuss recognition.

We can suggest a range of independent financial advisors. For a confidential discussion, please contact +61 (0) 3 8610 9150 or

Donating shares

We can accept shares directly instead of cash without any brokerage fees. For a confidential discussion, contact +61 (0) 3 8610 9150 or

Alternatively, ShareGift Australia is a not-for-profit organisation that enables you to sell shares and donate the proceeds to charity. There are no brokerage fees. If your donation exceeds $50, you can nominate Bush Heritage Australia as your recommended charity to benefit from ShareGift Australia’s donations. More details here:

Donations as gifts

Can I donate for a loved one's birthday?

Of course! To make a donation as a gift see WILDgifts. Choose from a range of virtual gifts and your recipient will get a personalised card, explaining how the gift will protect Australia's natural heritage.

Can I donate in memory?

We're honoured that supporters choose to remember friends or loved ones by donating to our work. Simply leave the details in our standard donation form and we'll acknowledge such acts in our quarterly newsletters.

If you wish to notify friends or family, use our WILDgifts program to send a card.

If you'd like to ask a group of people to donate online in memory – perhaps in lieu of flowers at the funeral – we suggest you set up an online fundraising page for Bush Heritage at GoFundraise. Or call us to request paper donation forms.
