Our northern region, comprising northern NSW and Queensland, offers challenging yet rewarding volunteer placements in some of Australia’s most remote and iconic landscapes. Volunteers contribute to essential conservation work, often under demanding conditions.

Each reserve has specific needs, and we aim to match volunteers to the right opportunities. Before applying, consider:

  • Your skills and experience
  • Your availability and desired placement length
  • The prerequisites for specific tasks.

Remote reserves

Tasks include: caretaking, infrastructure maintenance, fence removal, ecological monitoring, and motion sensor camera work. 

Placements are usually from March to October, taking advantage of cooler conditions. Placement lengths vary by reserve from 7 to 21 days.

Prerequisites include: 

  • Good health as medical and emergency services are not close by
  • Good level of fitness and mobility  
  • Most reserves require a high clearance 4WD to access
  • 4WD driving experience and remote travel expertise is required for some placements.

Reserves closer to towns

Tasks include: Revegetation, weed control, and ecological surveys. Placements are available year-round with most offered between March and October.

Currumbin Valley Reserve offers single-day working bees.

Reedy Creek has 3–4 day placements, multiple times a year.
