Bush Heritage Australia would like to clarify the misleading and false claims made recently in The Weekend Australian regarding our management of the Night Parrot population at our Pullen Pullen Reserve in Queensland.
Bush Heritage categorically denies any human interference with Night Parrot habitats. We also deny that it is “standard practice” to flush birds from their nests during the day to photograph them. This is untrue and we were not contacted for comment by the article’s author.
Working with our partner University of Queensland, all Night Parrot related research activities are specifically approved by their animal ethics committee, with our lead researcher reporting to that committee annually.
We are an organisation that is wholly committed to conservation, and would never engage in any research or conduct that may cause harm to this magnificent endangered species – that is our Night Parrot promise.
