In the arid rangelands of South Australia, Bush Heritage is privileged to protect and care for 63,000 hectares of incredible landscape. Formally run as a sheep station for 150 years, Boolcoomatta Reserve is home to vegetation that's under-represented in Australia’s national reserve system, including Saltbush plains, River Red Gum woodland, Mulga woodland, Bullock bush shrubland, alongside ephemeral streams and wetlands.
The reserve has long-provided critical drought refuge habitat for the enigmatic Plains Wanderer – an endemic species that's globally significant in conservation circles. Grasslands on the property are vital to its persistence and a variety of monitoring techniques are utilised to help us identify the population and areas for additional protection.
Join Bush Heritage Australia's Graeme Finlayson and PhD candidate at the University of Adelaide, Saskia Gerhardy, as they chat about the conservation measures that protect this unique landscape and the Plains Wanderer.
