Bush Heritage protects 64,488 hectares at Boolcoomatta Reserve in the arid rangelands of South Australia. Formerly run as a sheep station, Boolcoomatta is home to vegetation that's under-represented in Australia’s national reserve system. This includes Saltbush plains, River Red Gum woodlands, Mulga woodlands and Bullock bush shrubland, plus ephemeral streams and wetlands.

The reserve has long-provided critical drought refuge habitat for the Plains Wanderer – an endemic species of global significance. Grasslands on the property are vital to its persistence and a variety of monitoring techniques are used to help us find these birds.

Join Bush Heritage Australia's ecologist Graeme Finlayson and Saskia Gerhardy (PhD candidate at the University of Adelaide), as they chat about conservation measures that protect this unique landscape.
