Bush Heritage protects a 64,488 hectares in the arid rangelands of South Australia at Boolcoomatta Reserve. Formerly run as a sheep station for 150 years, Boolcoomatta is home to vegetation that's under-represented in Australia’s national reserve system, including Saltbush plains, River Red Gum woodlands, Mulga woodlands and Bullock bush shrubland, alongside ephemeral streams and wetlands.

The reserve has long-provided critical drought refuge habitat for the enigmatic Plains Wanderer – an endemic species that's globally significant in conservation circles. Grasslands on the property are vital to its persistence and a variety of monitoring techniques are used to help us identify the population and areas for extra protection.

Join Bush Heritage Australia's ecologist Graeme Finlayson and Saskia Gerhardy (PhD candidate at the University of Adelaide), as they chat about the conservation measures that protect this unique landscape and the Plains Wanderer.
