Farm-scale Natural Capital Accounting

Published 31 Aug 2021

Host: Michelle Stook, National Volunteer Program Coordinator

Guest speaker: Dr Jim Radford, Bush Heritage Volunteer

Jim held the position of Science and Conservation Executive Manager with Bush Heritage before taking up his current position with La Trobe University as Principal Research Fellow in the La Trobe Research Centre for Future Landscapes. On weekends each spring, he volunteers to conduct bird surveys on our Victorian Reserves.

Jim is developing methods with which farmers can measure their natural capital – including ecosystem services like biodiversity protection, erosion and flood control. The intent is that they can them use the data to negotiate better deals with banks or for tapping into the conscious consumer market.
