Wandering slowly through native grasses is the endearing echidna. Nomadic, shy and solitary they can be found on most of Bush Heritage’s reserves and hold the title for Australia’s most widespread native mammal.
Habitat loss caused by the removal of fallen logs, tree stumps and native understory vegetation is the primary threat to the echidna’s existence. However, Bush Heritage’s on-ground conservation work and active management of reserves are working to ensure echidnas and their landscapes continue to thrive.
This bushgift supports Bush Heritage’s work helping to preserve the myriad of native plant and animal species found on our reserves across Australia.
