Australia has more mistletoe species than anywhere else in the world. The Amyema nestor (pictured) is one of 90 Australian species, 70 of which are native and grow on trees such as eucalypts, banksias, wattles, mangroves and casuarinas.
Mistletoes, though classed as semi-parasitic, are ecologically important due to their highly nutritious flowers, fruit, nectar and leaves favoured by wildlife such as sugar-gliders, possums, birds and insects.
