Red Dirt Wildflowers 6x4

“To come home is that decompression. I can feel a weight lifted. My energy is restored when I am here, I’m a lot calmer.”

Wangkamadla woman Avelina Tarrago describes what it feels like to be back on country at Pilungah Reserve in far western Queensland. In July 2021, Wangkamadla people’s rights to over 3 million hectares of their land were formally recognised in a native title determination.

Every year cultural camps are held on the reserve to facilitate deeper connection to country, cultural learning, celebration and knowledge sharing, all on ancestral lands. Across the country, Bush Heritage partners with Traditional Owners, working together to manage and care for the continent’s diverse landscapes.

This bushgift supports Bush Heritage’s work helping to preserve the myriad native plant and animal species found on our reserves across Australia. Learn more about our Aboriginal partnerships.
