Healthy Country Manager – Western Australian Desert

This a unique opportunity to support right-way science and work in partnership with Martu Traditional Owners on projects across the Birriliburu Indigenous Protected Area and develop other Aboriginal partnerships across the Western Australia Desert. 

Bush Heritage is a national, not-for-profit organisation that either buys and manages high-conservation value land, or partners with Aboriginal people to support their programs to keep country healthy.

About the role

This rare and diverse role will support Traditional Owners to implement existing right-way science plans and further develop projects and partnerships. Within the Birriliburu IPA you will work together with Martu to protect culturally significant and threatened species such as Bilbies, Great Desert Skink and Night Parrot, as well as working to manage a range of threats to country including fire, weeds, camels and feral predators.

You will learn from Martu in the Western Australia Desert. You will share knowledge, provide training and mentor Rangers in western scientific methodology and assist them to work in collaboration with other land management agencies and research institutions to maximise capacity development as well as conservation and cultural outcomes.  

About you

You will have a passion working with people and understand land management and ecology along with demonstrated experience in project management and working in remote locations. You respect, listen and support Traditional Owner knowledge and interests inlooking after country. You are confident leading field trips with Rangers in remote environments and support regional groups to develop threatened species working groups, data management protocols and ranger exchanges that bring ranger groups together from across the Western Australian Desert.
